Klong Prao Beach Koh Chang Island, Thailand

Klong Prao is the largest beach on Koh Chang, Klong Prao Beach is located 4 kilometers south of White Sand Beach. This beach starts at the point where Laem Chaichet ends. The beach itself is quite unique as it’s divided into three sections by the river estuary of Klong Plu Waterfall and a river channel in the south. Much quieter than White Sand Beach, Klong Prao beach is ideal for those who appreciate tranquil surroundings and gorgeous rocky landscape.

Klong Prao (mean "Coconut Canal" in Thai), has sprung up in recent years as a centre for major upmarket resorts and health spas. The mostly private expanse of beach is quite narrow, particularly when the tide is in, but is covered with soft white sand.

Many of the larger resorts that line this stretch also have stunning swimming pools. Because most of the accommodation is resort style with all amenities included on site, there are not too many independent restaurants or other shops in the area.

Klong Prao is strung out over about 5 kilometers of beach of varying quality. Though there are plenty of shops around, there's no feeling of a centrered community here like on White Sands Beach or Kai Bae Beach. The emphasis is on top-end resorts that cater for their guests' every whim. Much of the northern end of the beach is privately owned.

A highlight of a stay in Klong Prao is a visit to the canal at night to see masses of fireflies dancing around in the twilight. As well as the usual beachside activities, there are a few excellent cooking schools towards the southern end of the beach. Klong Prao is also the place to access the Khlong Phu waterfall and Chang Chutiman Trekking elephant camp.
