Laem Chaichet Koh Chang Island, Thailand

Laem Chaichet is the long seaside adjacent to Kai Bae Beach, which is rather steep but offers possibilities for swimming. Standard bungalows with facilities are available. The northernmost area of Klong Prao Beach is adjacent to Chaichet Bay and Beach where visitors can take in the beautiful landscape while enjoying the superb relaxation and tranquil retreat.

Four kilometres south of White Sand beach (Hat Sai Khao), the scenic, rocky cape at Laem Chaichet curves round into sweeping, casuarina-fringed Klong Prao Beach, one of Koh Chang's nicest beaches, not least because it has yet to see the clutter and claustrophobic development of both its neighbours.

For the moment at least, most of the restaurants, bars and shops are secreted way off the beach along the roadside, with the beachfront left mainly to a decent spread of differently priced accommodation. At the northern end, Laem Chaichet protects an inlet and tiny harbour and offers beautiful views south across the bay and inland to the densely forested mountains behind.

Northern Klong Prao Beach is a nice kilometer-long run of beach that ends at a wide klong, Klong Phlu, whose estuary is the site of some characterful stilt homes and seafood restaurants. At low tide you can just about wade across to southern Klong Prao Beach; more reliably, during daylight hours, you can rent your own kayak from almost anywhere along the beach.
