Visitors to the region traditionally come to Kuraburi as the starting point of their trip to Surin National Park, but the area has much more to offer in terms of culture and natural beauty.
Surin Islands National Park Located in Tambol Kon Phra Thong, Amphur Kuraburi, occupies an area of 135 sq.kms or about 84,375 rai. Thepark comprises Koh Surin Nua, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Klang and Koh Kani. Along the western coast lie wonderful coral reefs. Blessed with beautiful bays and fertile tropical forests, the park is ideal for both scuba diving and forest trekking. More important, the islands are dwellings of sea gypsies. Interesting natural attractions in the park include:
Koh Surin Nua & Koh Surin Tai Are blessed with over ten wonderful bays of which Mae Yai, Mae Yai and Luk bays are most renowned. Fantastic undersea world could be experienced here.
Koh Pra thong, (Unseen In Thailand) Located in Tambol Koh Phra Thong, Amphur Kuraburi,comprises mangrove forests in the east, a golden sandy beach in the west and a safari field in the middle part. The island is the habitat of wildlife including tortoises, birds and nearly extinct orchid. From the beach the wonderful sunset could be appreciated at dusk. The island could be reached by a long-tailed boat from Koh Surin.
Mai Ngam Bay Natural Study Rute Lying on Koh Surin Nua, begins from the park's office and comes to an end at Mai Ngam bay where swimming and diving are possible. Coral reefs and varying fish are very attractive.
Chong Khat Bay Located between Kok Surin Nua and Koh Surin Tai, is ideal for diving training. During water recession, Koh Surin Tai could be reached on foot.
Suthep Bay, (Unseen In Thailand) Located north of Koh Surin Tai, has an undersea world study route. Along theroute visitors could appreciate the wonderful undersea world, in particular the 1,200 - meter-long coral reefs.
Mangkon Bay Located at Koh Klang not far from Suthep bay, has fantastic coral reefs. Large lobsters are found here.
Ri Che Lew Rocky Cluster, (Unseen in Thailand) Located about 10 kms southwest of Koh Surin, could be appreciated during water recession. Most important, it is a deep sea diving site. Undersea wonders cold be experienced here.
Sea Gypsy Village Situated at the Bon Lek bay of Koh Surin Tai, comprises 20 houses. They simply live their life as fisherman. On fullmoon day in April, the sea gypsies here will annually hold a spirit-sacrifice ceremony. Those who wish to offer them charitable aid, please contact the park's office or purchase their handicrafs available at the service center and in the village.
Tao Bay Located at Kho Surin Tai, is a dwelling of sea tortoises. Wonderful coral reefs could be perceived here.
Phak Kat Bay Situated near Tao bay, is blessed with fantastic coral reefs.
Koh Khai An islet located south of Kho Surin Tai, Is famous for wonderful coral reefs lying in the eastern coast and stunning fish.
