Myrtle Beach is the East Coast’s premier tourist destination and has developed into one of the most-visited locations along the Grand Strand, a 60-mile expanse of beaches on the Southeastern coast of South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is set apart from Charleston by almost 100 miles and also situated between North Myrtle Beach and Murrells Island.
Myrtle Beach is fitted with the best tourist amenities in the state, including wonderful Southern restaurants, hotels and vacation rentals, and immediate access to chartered fishing tours, kayaking and canoeing, and endless beach activities. Many attractions entice visitors away from the beaches too, such as world-class golf, live theater, and shopping. As a year-round tourist spot, Myrtle Beach entertains both adults and children ideally at any time of year.
North and South Ocean Boulevard sit just behind the stretch of sand in Myrtle Beach. At the north end, the beaches end at Dunes Golf Course and at Myrtle Beach State Park at the southern end. This sunny, sandy stretch is the main focus of activity where all boating, swimming, sunbathing, fishing and watersports take place. Fishing is possible via charter boats at local marinas, at public piers, and directly from the surf, which is permitted at all beach areas.
There are many city events taking place throughout the year in Myrtle Beach including Mardi Gras in March, Taste of Broadway Spring Festival encompassing Broadway at the Beach, and Little River Blue Crab Festival in May. Popular summer events include the July 4th Celebration in Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet July 4th Boat Parade along with several food and wine festivals in September. As a year-round destination, Myrtle Beach also features many winter season events including the ocean-based Intracoastal Christmas Regatta and Nights Of A Thousand Candles.
