Myrtle Beach State Park is just past the southernmost beach on Myrtle
Beach, called Springmaid Beach, officially at 4401 South Kings Highway.
The very beautiful, wide white-sand beach is the main attraction, but
certainly not the only one. Spreading the days out for an extended stay
is highly recommended when visiting this part of Myrtle Beach,
for there is just so much to do and see. Extended stays are easily
accommodated by the expansive campgrounds, providing 350 campsites to
choose between. Wireless Internet access is available at the Ranger
Station, fishing pier, and campground store.
The 312-acres of beach park, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps
in the 1930s, make up the Heritage Trust Site and Maritime forest. It’s
at the center of the Grand Strand, and along with an incredible beach,
there are numerous hiking trails on natural paths and wooden boardwalks,
picnic shelters, a fishing pier, a nature center, and even free nature
programs. There are even a limited number of cabins for rent too, but
because of their extreme popularity, advanced reservations are essential
to secure a cabin for vacations.
The campgrounds at Myrtle Beach State Park are only a few hundred
yards from the beach and very pleasant with many families and rarely a
rowdy camper. The entire site is set within a beautiful maritime forest where incredibly tall pine trees offer crucial shade on hot summer days. Both RV and tent camping
are available and though advanced reservations are the best idea, some
sites are held for an on-arrival basis. Cabins are in a different area
as well as dual apartment-style accommodations. A simple day at the
beach is effortless too, with showers and restrooms located by the sand
dunes leading to the coast and just a short walk from the parking lots.
