Sebatik Island is an island off the eastern coast of Borneo, partly
within Indonesia and partly within Malaysia. It has an area of
approximately 452.2 square kilometres. Both Malaysia and Indonesia share Sebatik island. The northern part is
part of the Malaysian Sabah state, while the southern half is part of
Indonesia's East Kalimantan province. This stone piece is an official
border marker, dividing Malaysia (to the left) and Indonesia (to the
right). The boundary runs parallel to the approaching motorcycle.
Although the left part is officially under Malaysian jurisdiction, the
entire village is de facto administered as an Indonesian village.
